Finally Microsoft hammers tablet business and announces its own Windows 8/RT tablet “Microsoft Surface”. The product was announced in a mystery event at Los Angles press event by CEO Steve Ballmer.

Microsoft showcased the RT version of tablet that weighs just 1.5 pounds, is 0.4 inches thick which is very common in emerging thin and light tablets these days. The tablet has 10.6 inches ClearType HD display covered with Gorilla Glass and is very first such device with a magnesium case with a kickstand; it will also have a magnetic keyboard as a smart cover in different hues. The tablet will hit the market at same time around Widows 8 GA.

Beyond this, there will be another variant running Windows 8 Pro equipped with Intel based processors that will be 0.5 of inch thick and weighs 2 pounds; it will be made available about 3 months after Windows 8 GA. The company has also launched a Microsoft Surface website and shared a configuration sheet with some more information.
